Interesting interview but I'm surprised there was no mention of SETI@Home:

Figured that would have been mentioned as another way to get the public involved in SETI.

Thermal noise and free space path loss are the enemies of making ET contact. The weaker the signal the longer your search time becomes. One of these days I'm going to write a paper on this for the SETI community.
